About me

I am a qualified counsellor registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

My interest in mental health and supporting others led me to train as a counsellor, specialising in working with young people and adults from a wide range of backgrounds. Over the years, I have worked across diverse therapeutic settings including schools, universities, local charities, and private practice, giving me experience in supporting people through many different life challenges and experiences.

Alongside my counselling work, I have held senior roles within the mental health sector, including at Cambridgeshire, Peterborough and South Lincolnshire Mind (CPSL Mind), where I developed and led mental health services and wellbeing programmes. I currently work at the University of Cambridge as a Staff Wellbeing Consultant, leading on staff wellbeing initiatives and supporting the development of a healthier and more compassionate workplace culture. I also work part-time within the university’s Staff Counselling Service alongside my private practice.

My counselling approach:

As an integrative counsellor, I work primarily from a person-centred approach, believing that each individual’s experiences and needs are unique. I draw from a range of therapeutic approaches including psychodynamic therapy, Gestalt, CBT, and neurobiology, allowing me to tailor counselling to best support you and your individual circumstances. My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and grounded in building a trusting therapeutic relationship.

I am committed to ongoing professional development and regularly update my training to ensure my work is informed by current research, knowledge, and therapeutic practice.

I was very nervous to go to counselling as I didn’t really know what to say or what was behind my anxieties. However Jo instantly made me feel at ease and I don’t think I have ever talked as much as when I am with her. She helped make it clear in my mind what I needed to and most importantly wanted to change. The way Jo used practical activities to help me face my fears and realise what was going on was honestly life changing. I think everybody needs a Jo in their life and I wish I could thank her enough for making such a difference.
